YOU HAVE QUESTIONS…

We know you have questions about SLINGER, and we aim to provide you with answers. Here are some of the most frequently asked ones. If you have another question, please feel free to send us an email.

WHAT IS SLINGER?

SLINGER is a mobile app that provides a platform for a curated group of artists to share, sell, and trade their original sketches, drawings, and studies straight from their sketchbooks and studios.

SLINGER was created to give a home to the work that artists make as part of their daily practice, including sketches done on a park bench, drawings done while listening to music, studies for painting, or pieces done in a black book while planning a wall.

WHO IS IT FOR?

SLINGER is for artists, friends and collectors who love sketches, drawings and studies.

Whether it's a fellow artist flipping through a friend's sketchbook or a stranger curious about a drawing in progress, creating an image from scratch is magical and can inspire anyone who sees it. Now, with SLINGER, you can buy or trade for it and it will be shipped right to your home to enjoy.

HOW DOES IT WORK FOR ARTISTS?

SLINGER is currently invite-only for artists.

We have a diverse and talented group of artists who have been selected to be part of SLINGER, representing a broad range of styles, backgrounds, and genders. New artists are added regularly, and existing artists can invite new artists to join. Artists can also apply for future access through a short application form, which is reviewed by a randomly selected group of current artists. Once approved, artists can post their sketches, drawings, and studies to share, sell, and trade. They can also view, trade, and buy art from other artists. SLINGER was created by artists for artists, so they are of utmost importance to us. We want artists to make money selling their work, but we also know they love art and want to collect it. That's why we created the trade feature that's available only to artists.

HOW DOES IT WORK FOR COLLECTORS?

Anyone who loves sketches, drawings and studies can be a collector. Just download the app, set up your profile, and you're ready to go!

Collectors can view and buy sketches, drawings, and studies directly from artists' sketchbooks. With all work priced between $25 and $500, SLINGER is meant for all types of collectors, whether you have warehouses filled with art, are just starting to collect, or want to own every drawing your child has made since kindergarten.

WHAT CAN artists POST TO SLINGER?

Artists can post original sketches, drawings, and studies done on paper or similar material, unframed, and no larger than 11" x 14". The work should fit in one of our envelopes and weigh less than a pound.

We created SLINGER with the artists sketchbook in mind but any work on paper is fine. Artist can also use similar material like matte board, cardboard, sandpaper, velum, etc

WHAT CAN’T YOU POST TO SLINGER?

SLINGER is not for digital prints, photographs, framed artwork, sculptures, or anything thicker than a piece of cardboard.

We love prints, photos, sculptures and framed artwork but there are plenty of great places to buy those things online. We created SLINGER because we wanted a special place just for sketches, drawing and studies.

HOW IS WORK PRICED?

Artists can post work for sale and chose one of 6 fixed price points from $25 to $500.

When an artist lists a piece for sale, they pick from our standard price points: $25, $50, $100, $175, $300, or $500. In addition to the list price, the buyer also pays a flat $20 shipping and handling fee.

WHY FIXED PRICE POINTS?

Pricing your work can be hard so we wanted to make it easier.

To make pricing your work easier, we have carefully chosen our price points to accommodate as many artists and collectors as possible. Our price cap is $500 to keep all the work approachable for all types of collectors. If you want to sell your work for a different amount, or for more than $500, there are other places you can do that. No hard feelings.

HOW DO TRADES WORK?

Trades are a unique feature that is only available to Artists on SLINGER.

When posting a piece, artists can also list it as available for trade. The trade option is only visible and available to other artists. To acquire a piece listed for trade, artists must use a Trade Token and pay a flat $20 shipping and handling fee.

WHAT IS A TRADE TOKEN?

Trade Tokens are the currency Artists use to trade pieces on SLINGER.

They have no monetary value. They only exist within the app and can only be used for trade transactions between artists on SLINGER. There is a possibility that someday we may produce actual coins to trade art with, but it is only an idea at the moment.

HOW DO I GET A TRADE TOKEN?

As an artist, your first Trade Token is on us. The rest you must earn.

Artists acquire trade tokens in 3 ways:

  1. Listing a piece for trade and generating their first “Free” Trade Token

  2. Receiving Trade Tokens as payment for a piece listed as trade

  3. Being active on SLINGER you can generate another “Free” Trade Token by posting a new piece for trade after all their pieces have been traded or purchased and all Trade Tokens have been used.

NOTE: trade tokens are not related to NFT’s or crypto in any way they can only be used in the app and you can’t get rich or go broke trading them on the block chain.

HOW DOES SHIPPING WORK?

We handle shipping by sending the artist all the necessary packing materials.

As soon as a sale or trade takes place, we take care of the shipping process. The buyer pays the shipping fees and we send the artist shipping supplies suited for the size of the art, including a shipping label to cover postage to the collector. The artist packs the piece, adds the shipping label, and mails it. We track the package and keep everyone updated.

WHAT DO ARTISTS GET PAID?

Artist earn approximately* 85% of each Sale or one Trade Token for each Trade.

  • SLINGER takes a 15% sales commission of each Sale.

  • SLINGER does not take a sales commission from Trades.

    * Credit Card processing fees are separate and vary by transaction size, but are usually between 3% and 4% per transaction.

HOW DO I BECOME AN ARTIST?

To become an artist on SLINGER, you can either be invited by another artist or apply through a short form on the website or App.

SLINGER is a community of artists that started with a curated group of talented individuals from different backgrounds and styles. Existing Collectors can apply to become artists by submitting samples of their work through the application, which will be reviewed by a randomly selected group of current artists. If accepted your account can be changed from a collector account to an Artist Account. If your application is not accepted, you can try again and a new group of artists will review it.
